You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience, particularly in building scalable production systems. You’ve owned services from design through deployment and have a strong understanding of debugging complex distributed systems issues. Your expertise in Java and Python allows you to develop high-performance applications that meet the needs of a fast-paced environment. You are familiar with cloud technologies, particularly AWS, and have experience with containerization tools like Docker. You understand the importance of REST APIs and have designed and implemented them in previous roles. You thrive in collaborative settings, working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful solutions. You are driven by a customer-focused mindset, always looking to solve strategic problems for clients.

Desirable

Experience with AI technologies or machine learning frameworks is a plus, as is familiarity with Agile methodologies. You have a knack for mentoring junior engineers and enjoy sharing your knowledge with others. You are adaptable and open to learning new technologies as the industry evolves.

What you'll do

As a Staff Backend Engineer at Kalepa, you will play a crucial role in developing our AI underwriting platform. You will design and implement backend services that process large volumes of data, ensuring they are efficient and reliable. You will collaborate with product managers and designers to understand user needs and translate them into technical requirements. Your responsibilities will include optimizing existing systems for performance and scalability, as well as troubleshooting and resolving production issues. You will also participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to your peers to maintain high code quality. Additionally, you will contribute to architectural discussions, helping to shape the future of our technology stack.
