Your technical expertise includes a deep understanding of API management and operations — you are familiar with tools like Terraform and command line interfaces (CLI), which are essential for operating APIs in production environments. You possess strong communication and collaboration skills — you can effectively engage with cross-functional teams, including product management and design, to ensure that the engineering output aligns with business goals. Desirable

What you'll do

As the Engineering Manager at Kong, you will be responsible for leading the API Ops and UI teams, ensuring that they consistently deliver results that align with the company's strategic objectives. You will own the end-to-end technical success of your teams, overseeing the development and implementation of industry-leading security and quality standards.

You will work closely with your teams to build and enhance Kong's API Management suite, which includes products like the Kong Enterprise Gateway and the Konnect SaaS platform. Your leadership will be crucial in driving the technical direction and ensuring that your teams are equipped with the tools and resources they need to succeed.

In this role, you will also be responsible for conducting regular performance reviews and providing constructive feedback to your team members. You will facilitate career development discussions, helping your engineers to identify their strengths and areas for improvement, and supporting them in their professional growth.

Collaboration is key in this position — you will partner with product managers and designers to ensure that the engineering output meets user needs and enhances the overall user experience. You will also be involved in strategic planning, helping to define the roadmap for your teams and aligning their efforts with the broader goals of the organization.
