Overview
Kong is hiring a Software Engineer 2 to work on the Kong Gateway product. You'll contribute to the proxy stack based on Nginx/OpenResty and collaborate with your team on technical delivery. This position requires 3+ years of experience in computer operating systems and Linux systems troubleshooting.
Job Description
Who you are
You have 3+ years of experience in computer operating systems and a deep understanding of the Linux system runtime and networking stack — your solid hands-on technical experience in Linux systems troubleshooting and profiling makes you a valuable asset to the team. You are familiar with debugging tools such as gdb, systemtap, tcpdump, and crash, which allows you to resolve complex problems efficiently. Your experience with public cloud providers like AWS, GCP, or Azure enhances your ability to contribute to cloud-based solutions. You possess fluent English language skills, both written and verbal, enabling effective communication within the team and with stakeholders.
Desirable
Hands-on experience with building and maintaining NGINX/OpenResty-based backend services is a plus, as is experience with Lua/C programming — extra points if you have worked with LuaJIT. Your technical background and willingness to learn new technologies will help you thrive in this role.
What you'll do
As a Software Engineer 2 at Kong, you will work on our proxy stack, which is based on Nginx/OpenResty. You will organize and prioritize complex problem resolution and bug fixes, ensuring the reliability and performance of distributed services. Your contributions to the Kong Gateway OSS and Enterprise product will be significant, as you collaborate with your team on the strategy and execution of key product features. You will have the opportunity to influence the culture within the team and facilitate technical delivery, making valuable contributions to the overall success of the company.
