Overview
Mandolin is hiring a Lead DevOps Engineer to design and own cloud infrastructure on GCP while implementing comprehensive security controls. You'll work with technologies like Prometheus and Grafana to ensure enterprise-grade reliability and security. This position requires experience in a fast-paced startup environment.
Job Description
Who you are
You have a strong background in DevSecOps with a focus on building and operating cloud infrastructure — your experience includes designing scalable environments on GCP and implementing security best practices. You are comfortable working in a fast-paced, results-oriented startup environment and have a proven track record of enhancing developer productivity while ensuring security. Your expertise in infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools like Pulumi allows you to codify best practices that every engineer can rely on as the company scales.
You have experience with observability tools such as Prometheus and Grafana, enabling you to deploy and maintain metrics, tracing, and log pipelines effectively. Your understanding of zero-trust IAM policies and continuous vulnerability scanning integration into CI/CD processes ensures that security is embedded throughout the software development lifecycle. You thrive on streamlining developer experiences, providing clear runbooks and local environment scripts that empower new engineers to ship safely from day one.
Desirable
You have experience with workflow orchestration platforms like Airflow or Temporal, which enhances your ability to manage complex workflows efficiently. Familiarity with HIPAA, SOC 2, or similarly regulated environments is a plus, as is exposure to edge-security patterns such as zero-trust networking and service-mesh architectures. Your background in building internal developer platforms or golden-path tooling will be beneficial as you contribute to the team's success.
What you'll do
In this role, you will design and own the cloud infrastructure on GCP, establishing autoscaling policies and high-availability networking to ensure cost-efficient environments across staging and production. You will implement comprehensive security controls, centralizing secrets management and rotation while defining zero-trust IAM policies. Your responsibilities will include integrating continuous vulnerability scanning into CI/CD processes to maintain a secure development environment.
You will stand up first-class observability by deploying and maintaining metrics, tracing, and log pipelines using tools like Prometheus and Grafana. Additionally, you will define actionable service-level objectives (SLOs) and alerting mechanisms to ensure system reliability. Your role will also involve streamlining the developer experience by providing dev-containers, local environment scripts, and clear runbooks that enable new engineers to ship code safely from day one.
As a leader in DevSecOps, you will embed security into the software development lifecycle, ensuring that security practices are integrated into every stage of development. You will collaborate closely with engineering teams to foster a culture of security awareness and best practices, helping to build a robust and secure cloud foundation for Mandolin's platform.
What we offer
At Mandolin, you will be part of a mission-driven team dedicated to transforming healthcare through innovative technology. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, along with opportunities for professional growth and development. You will work in a collaborative environment where your contributions will have a direct impact on the company's success and the lives of patients across the country. Join us in our mission to make groundbreaking treatments accessible to everyone.
