5+ years of backend engineering experience building production systems at scale — you've owned services from design through deployment and have war stories from debugging complex distributed systems issues. Deep expertise in Java and PostgreSQL — you've shipped high-throughput APIs that handle millions of requests and have strong opinions on service architecture, dependency injection, and testing strategies. You are passionate about creating user-centric solutions and understand the importance of financial education in banking. You thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful features. What you'll do
Join Monzo's engineering team to design and implement scalable backend services that support our innovative banking solutions. Collaborate with product managers and designers to understand user needs and translate them into technical requirements. Lead code reviews and mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement. Monitor and optimize system performance, ensuring high availability and reliability of our services. Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to the technical direction of the team. Engage in incident response and troubleshooting to maintain the integrity of our systems. Work on exciting projects that push the boundaries of digital banking and enhance user experience.
What we offer
