Who you are

You are currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field — you have a strong foundation in programming and are eager to apply your skills in a real-world setting. Your programming skills in C++ are robust, and you have coursework or project experience in motion planning, robotics, or autonomous systems. You are familiar with simulation tools and have a keen interest in the development of autonomous technologies.

You thrive in collaborative environments — working alongside engineers and researchers excites you, and you are motivated to contribute to the advancement of cutting-edge motion planning algorithms. You are detail-oriented and understand the importance of documenting tools, experiments, and action models clearly to support team efforts.

What you'll do

As a Software Engineer Intern at Motional, you will join the Motion Planning team and have the opportunity to develop or refine action-generation algorithms and models. You will run simulations or real-world experiments to evaluate the quality of action execution, focusing on performance aspects such as latency, smoothness, and stability. Your role will involve supporting the analysis and tuning of action performance, ensuring that the algorithms you work on meet high standards of efficiency and reliability.

You will collaborate closely with experienced engineers and researchers, gaining insights into the latest advancements in autonomous systems. This internship will provide you with hands-on experience in a fast-evolving field, allowing you to contribute to projects that have a real impact on the future of transportation. You will also have the chance to document your work and share your findings with the team, enhancing your communication skills and technical knowledge.
