Who you are

You have 5+ years of professional engineering experience in backend roles, ideally within tech and product-driven companies. Your background may include being a former founder or an early engineer at a startup, where you built products from scratch and gained valuable insights into the development lifecycle. You possess deep expertise in Java and Spring, having shipped high-throughput APIs that handle millions of requests. You understand the intricacies of service architecture, dependency injection, and testing strategies, and you have experience with distributed systems and databases.

You are a collaborative team player who enjoys working closely with product, design, and research teams to implement effective solutions. You have a strong understanding of performance, safety, and compliance, especially in the context of global-scale applications. Your problem-solving skills are complemented by your ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders. You are passionate about leveraging AI capabilities to enhance user experiences and drive efficiency in enterprise applications.

Desirable

Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP is a plus, as is familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes. You may also have knowledge of data pipelines and APIs, which will be beneficial in this role.

What you'll do

In this role, you will own the end-to-end development lifecycle for new platform capabilities and integrations with other systems. You will collaborate closely with product, design, and external customers to understand their needs and implement effective solutions. Your work will involve architecting and maintaining the services and infrastructure that power OpenAI applications, ensuring they are reliable and scalable.

You will work with the research team to improve the next generation of models, bringing new AI capabilities to production. This includes designing large-scale distributed systems and databases, as well as developing APIs and data pipelines that support enterprise products. You will be responsible for monitoring system performance and ensuring compliance with safety standards, all while delivering a world-class user experience.
