Overview
OpenAI is seeking a Camera ISP Software Engineer to lead the development of imaging systems for consumer products. You'll work with embedded systems and software tuning to ensure high-quality imaging. This role requires expertise in C and C++ and experience in hardware-accelerated pipelines.
Job Description
Who you are
You have a strong background in software engineering, particularly in embedded systems, with experience in C and C++. You thrive in early-stage environments where ambiguity is common, and you take pride in delivering production-grade imaging systems that meet real-world constraints. Your technical ownership and collaborative spirit make you a valuable team member, and you are eager to contribute to innovative consumer products that integrate AI seamlessly into everyday life.
You possess a deep understanding of image signal processing (ISP) and have hands-on experience with hardware bring-up and tuning. Your ability to navigate complex technical challenges and your commitment to high-quality outcomes set you apart. You are comfortable working closely with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers and AI researchers, to create intuitive and reliable consumer devices.
Desirable
Experience with camera systems and imaging technologies is a plus, as is familiarity with AI-driven features. You are open to learning new technologies and methodologies that can enhance your contributions to the team. A passion for consumer electronics and a desire to push the boundaries of what is possible with AI in physical products will help you excel in this role.
What you'll do
As a Camera ISP Software Engineer, you will take ownership of the end-to-end ISP bring-up and tuning process across both prototype and production hardware. You will work closely with the hardware team to ensure that imaging systems perform optimally under various conditions, including motion, power constraints, and manufacturing variations. Your role will involve software tuning and developing hardware-accelerated pipelines that deliver stable and high-quality imaging results.
You will collaborate with a small, highly technical team that values deep ownership and high-quality product delivery. Your contributions will directly impact user-facing experiences and on-device perception for AI-driven features. You will be responsible for troubleshooting and resolving issues that arise during the development process, ensuring that the final product meets the high standards expected by OpenAI.
In this role, you will also engage in cross-functional collaboration, working alongside industrial designers and AI researchers to create category-defining consumer devices. Your ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team will be essential as you navigate the complexities of integrating hardware and software solutions.
What we offer
OpenAI provides a hybrid work model, allowing you to work four days in the office each week while also offering flexibility. We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where all team members can thrive. You will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology that has the potential to shape the future of consumer products. We also offer relocation assistance to help you transition smoothly to our San Francisco office.
Join us at OpenAI, where we believe in the transformative power of artificial intelligence and its ability to solve global challenges. Your work will contribute to creating innovative products that enhance everyday life and push the boundaries of technology.
