OpenAI is hiring a Data Scientist to design and implement critical models and analyses for the Strategic Finance team. You'll work closely with Finance and Engineering teams, utilizing skills in predictive modeling and causal inference. This role is based in San Francisco with a hybrid work model.

Who you are
You have a strong background in data science, with expertise in predictive modeling and causal inference β you've successfully designed and implemented models that drive strategic decision-making in a business context. Your experience includes working cross-functionally with various teams, including Finance and Engineering, to derive actionable insights from complex datasets.
You are proficient in programming languages such as Python and SQL, enabling you to manipulate and analyze large datasets effectively. Your analytical mindset allows you to surface insights that support high-stakes decisions, and you are comfortable automating reporting processes to enhance efficiency.
You thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy partnering with diverse teams to achieve common goals. Your ability to communicate complex data findings in a clear and concise manner makes you a valuable asset in any team setting. You are also adaptable and open to learning new tools and methodologies as needed.
Desirable
Experience with data visualization tools and frameworks is a plus, as it allows you to present your findings in an engaging manner. Familiarity with financial modeling and customer segmentation strategies will further enhance your contributions to the team.
What you'll do
As a Data Scientist on the Strategic Finance team, you will become an expert in OpenAIβs data and systems β partnering with Data Engineering and Finance teams to self-serve data and derive critical insights. You will scale causal inference models to measure the impact of different actions on user growth and financial outcomes, which will directly influence strategic decisions.
You will architect customer segmentation frameworks that unlock tailored growth strategies and expand lifetime value. Automating standardized reporting and analysis will be a key part of your role, as you build data products or agentic solutions that streamline processes.
Your work will support product pricing and other business decisions through ad hoc analysis, ensuring that the team has the insights needed to make informed choices. You will also collaborate closely with Finance leadership and other teams across Research and Go-To-Market to deliver actionable insights that maximize OpenAIβs long-term value.
