Overview
OpenAI is hiring a Junior RTL & Co-design Engineer to design and implement key components for AI accelerators. You'll work closely with various engineering teams to translate AI workloads into efficient hardware structures. This role is based in San Francisco with a hybrid work model.
Job Description
Who you are
You are a junior engineer with a foundational understanding of RTL design and microarchitecture — you have experience in designing components for hardware systems and are eager to learn and grow in a collaborative environment. You thrive in hands-on roles where you can contribute to the development of cutting-edge technology, particularly in the AI space.
You possess strong analytical skills and are comfortable working with cross-functional teams — your ability to communicate effectively with software, verification, and architecture teams will help ensure successful hardware/software co-design. You are detail-oriented and committed to producing high-quality work that meets performance and power targets.
What you'll do
In this role, you will produce clean, production-quality microarchitecture and RTL for major accelerator subsystems — your contributions will directly impact the efficiency and performance of AI workloads. You will collaborate with architecture and verification teams to conduct architectural studies, including performance modeling and feasibility analysis, ensuring that the hardware meets the demands of advanced AI applications.
You will partner with software, simulator, and compiler teams to ensure that the hardware is well-integrated with AI models — this involves understanding the specific requirements of AI workloads and translating them into efficient hardware structures. Additionally, you will work closely with design verification and physical design teams to ensure functional correctness and timing closure, while also meeting area and power targets.
What we offer
At OpenAI, you will be part of a team that is at the forefront of AI technology — we offer a hybrid work model that allows for flexibility while ensuring collaboration in the office. You will have opportunities for professional development and growth as you work on innovative projects that shape the future of technology. We are committed to providing a supportive work environment and reasonable accommodations for applicants with disabilities.
