Overview
OpenAI is hiring a Simulation Realism Engineer to enhance simulation realism for robotics research and product development. You'll work cross-functionally to define and operationalize realism metrics, utilizing skills in cloud operations and physics. This role is based in San Francisco and requires hands-on engineering expertise.
Job Description
Who you are
You have a strong background in engineering, particularly in simulation and robotics, with hands-on experience in defining and operationalizing realism metrics and protocols. Your expertise includes working with physics engines, sensors, and rendering techniques, allowing you to identify and quantify gaps in simulation realism effectively. You are comfortable collaborating with cross-functional teams, including research, software, hardware, and operations, to drive impactful engineering solutions. You possess a scientific mindset, emphasizing measurement and validation in your work, and are adept at tuning engine parameters to achieve desired outcomes.
Desirable
Experience with cloud operations and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines is a plus, as is familiarity with third-party simulation engines. You have a passion for robotics and a desire to contribute to advancements in artificial general intelligence (AGI) through realistic simulations. Your ability to design experiments and automated tests will help track regressions and improve simulation fidelity over time.
What you'll do
In this role, you will lead efforts to make simulation quantitatively real for robotics research and product development. You will define and operationalize realism metrics and protocols, ensuring that simulations closely mimic real-world physics and interactions. Your responsibilities will include designing experiments and automated tests to identify areas of non-realism, quantifying gaps, and tracking regressions over time. You will fine-tune engine parameters related to contacts, friction, mass, and density to enhance simulation accuracy. Additionally, you will integrate third-party engines and operate simulations at scale, collaborating closely with various teams to discover and address the highest-impact realism gaps.
What we offer
OpenAI is committed to fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment. You will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology and contribute to projects that aim to unlock general-purpose robotics. The role offers relocation assistance for new employees and requires four days in the office each week. We believe in the potential of artificial intelligence to solve global challenges and are looking for individuals who share this vision. Join us in shaping the future of technology and making a meaningful impact in the field of robotics.
