Who you are
You have a strong background in quantitative finance research, ideally with 3-7 years of experience in alpha-driven research for asset classes like equities, futures, and foreign exchange. Your analytical and quantitative skills are exceptional, allowing you to conduct independent research utilizing large datasets effectively. You hold an MS or PhD in finance, computer science, mathematics, physics, or another quantitative discipline, which has equipped you with the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
Your programming expertise spans several languages, including C++, Java, C#, MATLAB, R, Python, and Perl. This technical proficiency enables you to manage all aspects of the research process, from methodology selection to data collection and analysis. You are passionate about problem-solving and have a keen curiosity about financial markets and human behavior, which drives your research efforts.
You thrive in collaborative environments and are eager to learn from experienced portfolio managers and researchers. Your ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively makes you a valuable team member. You are excited about the opportunity to contribute to a team that values diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Desirable
Candidates with experience in similar roles at other firms or those transitioning from academia are encouraged to apply. A strong portfolio of engineering or data projects outside of school will be viewed favorably, showcasing your practical application of quantitative research skills.
What you'll do
As a Cubist Quantitative Researcher, you will independently conduct rigorous quantitative finance research, focusing on statistical and predictive models. You will manage the entire research process, including methodology selection, data collection, analysis, testing, prototyping, backtesting, and performance monitoring. Your work will involve analyzing market anomalies and developing systematic, computer-driven trading strategies across various asset classes.
You will collaborate closely with a large team of experienced portfolio managers and researchers, sharing insights and findings that contribute to the overall success of the trading strategies. Your role will require you to stay updated on the latest research and trends in quantitative finance, ensuring that your methodologies remain cutting-edge and effective.
You will also be responsible for documenting your research processes and results, presenting your findings to stakeholders, and contributing to the continuous improvement of research methodologies within the team. Your contributions will directly impact the performance of the trading strategies deployed by Cubist Systematic Strategies.
