Overview

Samsara is hiring a Senior Security Engineer to lead threat modeling efforts and enhance software security. You'll work with AWS, Docker, and Python to protect customer data. This position requires hands-on experience in security engineering.

Job Description

Who you are

You have 5+ years of experience in security engineering, with a strong focus on threat modeling and risk assessment — you've successfully led initiatives to identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities in software applications. Your hands-on experience with automation tools and infrastructure-as-code practices has allowed you to streamline security processes and improve overall efficiency.

You are proficient in cloud security, particularly with AWS, and understand the intricacies of securing cloud-based applications — your expertise extends to containerization technologies like Docker, which you have used to enhance security in development and production environments. You have a solid foundation in programming, particularly with Python, enabling you to develop scripts and tools that automate security tasks and improve incident response.

Your familiarity with Linux systems and security best practices allows you to effectively manage and secure server environments — you have a keen eye for detail and a proactive approach to identifying potential security threats before they become issues. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with product managers and engineers to integrate security into the software development lifecycle.

You are passionate about continuous learning and staying updated on the latest security trends and threats — you actively participate in security communities and contribute to discussions on best practices and emerging technologies. You understand the importance of building a security-first culture within organizations and are eager to share your knowledge with your team.

Desirable

Experience with compliance frameworks such as ISO 27001 or NIST is a plus, as is familiarity with security tools like Burp Suite or OWASP ZAP. You may also have experience in incident response and vulnerability management, which will further enhance your contributions to the team.

What you'll do

In this role, you will lead the threat modeling process across various projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify and assess security risks — you will develop and maintain threat models that guide the design and implementation of secure software solutions. Your responsibilities will include conducting security assessments and audits, as well as providing recommendations for improving security posture.

You will work closely with engineering teams to integrate security practices into the software development lifecycle, ensuring that security is a fundamental aspect of product design and implementation — you will also mentor junior engineers, helping them understand security principles and best practices.

Your role will involve staying abreast of the latest security threats and vulnerabilities, and you will be responsible for developing strategies to mitigate these risks — you will also participate in incident response activities, helping to investigate and remediate security incidents as they arise.

What we offer

Samsara provides a dynamic work environment where you can make a significant impact on the security of our products and the safety of our customers — we offer competitive compensation and benefits, including opportunities for professional development and growth. You will be part of a team that values collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to excellence in security practices.
