Overview
Sequence is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to build an AI-powered revenue platform for modern finance teams. You'll work with technologies like AWS and Java to develop critical backend systems. This position requires strong backend and cloud infrastructure experience.
Job Description
Who you are
You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience building production systems at scale — you've owned services from design through deployment and have war stories from debugging complex distributed systems issues. You possess strong backend and cloud infrastructure experience, enabling you to build systems that power billing for modern B2B companies. Your expertise in programming languages such as Java and Python allows you to contribute effectively to the evolution of critical systems. You thrive in collaborative environments, valuing deep technical work and continuous learning. You understand the importance of correctness and uptime in revenue-critical infrastructure, and you are motivated by the opportunity to shape how systems are built for years to come.
What you'll do
As a Senior Software Engineer at Sequence, you will own revenue-critical infrastructure, ensuring that correctness is non-negotiable and downtime is not an option. You will work on the evolution of the usage events platform, which processes every merchant action that determines how their customers get billed. Your role will involve designing and implementing scalable backend services, optimizing system performance, and ensuring that the platform can handle exponential growth while maintaining perfect accuracy. You will collaborate closely with a small team, engaging directly with customers to understand their needs and iterating on solutions that matter. You will also participate in code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to the overall technical direction of the team.
What we offer
At Sequence, you will have the opportunity to do work that matters and have direct access to customers. We offer a small team environment where you can take on real ownership of your projects. As we scale fast, you will grow alongside the company, contributing to a mission that is transforming how finance teams operate. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we value diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
