Job Description
Who you are
You have 5+ years of experience in aerodynamics engineering, with a strong background in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and aerothermal analysis. Your expertise allows you to predict the aerodynamic behavior of vehicles through various flight regimes, from subsonic to hypersonic. You are proficient in programming languages such as Python and MATLAB, enabling you to write code and scripts that enhance your modeling capabilities. You understand the importance of collaboration and can effectively interface with other engineering teams to provide insights that inform their designs. You are detail-oriented and have a passion for aerospace engineering, particularly in the context of space exploration.
Desirable
Experience with wind-tunnel testing and data analysis is a plus. Familiarity with guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) systems will help you work effectively with cross-functional teams. A background in aerospace structures will also be beneficial as you support vehicle design efforts.
What you'll do
As a Senior Aerodynamics Engineer at SpaceX, you will be responsible for preparing, meshing, running, and post-processing CFD models to predict the aerodynamic performance of the Starship during its missions. You will review post-flight data and compare it to pre-flight estimates, ensuring that your predictions are accurate and reliable. Your role will involve close collaboration with the GNC team to ensure safe landings and recoveries of both stages of the Starship. You will provide critical inputs to design engineers, helping them understand the physical phenomena affecting vehicle performance. Additionally, you will contribute to the development of new tools and methodologies that enhance the team's predictive capabilities.
What we offer
At SpaceX, you will be part of a mission-driven team dedicated to making space travel accessible and sustainable. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, along with opportunities for professional growth and development. You will work in a dynamic environment where your contributions directly impact the future of space exploration. Join us in our quest to enable human life on Mars and beyond.
