Job Description

Who you are

You have a Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, computer science, or a related discipline. You possess experience in designing and managing automation projects, demonstrating a strong understanding of high-volume manufacturing applications. Your expertise includes architecting, writing, and debugging PLC code, ensuring that it is organized, structured, documented, maintainable, and reusable. You are familiar with ANSI/RIA15.06 and OSHA regulations, which guide your implementation of safety logic systems in manufacturing environments. You have a knack for creating aesthetically simple HMI screens that make complex machines easy to operate and troubleshoot. Your knowledge of electrical systems is compliant with NEC, NFPA, and UL508A regulations, ensuring safety and reliability in factory operations.

What you'll do

As an Automation & Controls Engineer at SpaceX, you will be responsible for the design and integration of automated cells and motion-controlled systems that enhance Starship production. You will lead automation projects from initial factory ideation through machine commissioning and proof of rate capability, ultimately handing off to operational teams. Your role will involve generating PLC code that meets high standards of organization and documentation, which is crucial for maintaining efficiency in high-volume manufacturing. You will ensure that all systems comply with safety regulations, implementing robust safety logic for robots, gantries, and conveyors. Additionally, you will create schedules and budgets for projects, motivating your team to meet these targets while maintaining a focus on quality and safety.
