Job Description
Who you are
You have a Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field and possess hands-on experience in assembly, integration, and testing of complex systems. Your background includes working with aerospace or similar industries, where you have developed a strong understanding of vehicle systems and ground support equipment. You thrive in collaborative environments, effectively communicating with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and ensure flight readiness. Your problem-solving skills are top-notch, allowing you to identify high-risk processes and implement improvements proactively. You are comfortable leading critical on-site operations and guiding field technicians in their daily tasks. Your technical skills include proficiency in AutoCAD and familiarity with AWS and Linux systems, which you leverage to design and develop tools for vehicle assembly.
Desirable
Experience with rocket systems or aerospace engineering is a plus, as is familiarity with manufacturing assembly procedures. You may also have knowledge of quality assurance processes and root cause analysis methodologies, which will aid in your investigations and corrective actions. A passion for space exploration and a desire to contribute to the mission of enabling human life on Mars will set you apart.
What you'll do
As a Launch Engineer at SpaceX, you will be responsible for processing Falcon 9 flight vehicles, focusing on rapid and reliable rocket re-use. You will develop and execute procedures for the checkout and integration of both new and flight-proven rockets, ensuring that all systems are ready for launch. Your role will involve hands-on assembly and integration, where you will lead critical operations and collaborate with engineering staff from various departments to resolve any off-nominal test results. You will also partner with field technicians, providing direction and support as they conduct vehicle system testing. Identifying high-risk processes during flight hardware processing will be a key part of your responsibilities, as will implementing improvements to enhance operational excellence. You will lead root cause investigations to address issues related to product reliability and quality, ensuring that corrective actions are taken to prevent downstream disruptions. Additionally, you will manage work orders and drive non-conformances into actionable items, contributing to system improvements and overall efficiency.
