Job Description

Who you are

You hold a Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline and have at least 1 year of experience analyzing, designing, building, or testing mechanical systems. This could include experience from a competition team or internship. You are passionate about simplifying mechanical systems and enhancing their reliability and manufacturability.

You have a strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles and are eager to apply your knowledge to real-world challenges. Your experience includes working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, and you are comfortable conducting design reviews and integrating feedback into your designs.

You are detail-oriented and possess strong problem-solving skills, allowing you to diagnose and operate vehicle mechanisms during ground testing and flight. Your ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders and customers is essential for driving design and development across various vehicle systems.

Desirable

Experience with advanced mechanical systems or actuators is a plus, as is familiarity with aerospace applications. You are motivated by the mission of enabling human life on Mars and are excited to contribute to the innovative work at SpaceX.

What you'll do

As a Mechanisms Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and validating mechanical systems and actuators for the Starship and Super Heavy vehicles. You will drive the design and development of these systems, ensuring they are optimized for packaging, build, and operations. Your role will involve partnering with peer design owners in avionics, power systems, and structures to deliver integrated systems.

You will conduct design reviews with stakeholders and customers, managing on-site integration teams to implement feedback into your designs. Your work will directly impact the rapid reusability of SpaceX's launch vehicles, making them simpler and more reliable.

You will also be involved in diagnosing and operating vehicle mechanisms during ground testing and flight, ensuring that all systems function as intended. Your contributions will help shape the next generation of launch vehicles, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in aerospace engineering.
