Who you are
You hold a Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline and have at least 1 year of experience analyzing, designing, building, or testing mechanical systems. This could include experience from internships or competition teams. You are eager to contribute to the development of innovative mechanical systems that will play a crucial role in SpaceX's mission to enable human life on Mars.
You have a foundational understanding of mechanical engineering principles and are familiar with tools such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks. Your analytical skills allow you to diagnose and operate vehicle mechanisms effectively during ground testing and flight. You are a collaborative team player who enjoys working with cross-functional teams to deliver integrated systems optimized for packaging, build, and operations.
Desirable
Experience with mechanical systems in aerospace or automotive applications is a plus. Familiarity with design reviews and stakeholder management will help you thrive in this role. You are motivated by the challenge of simplifying complex mechanical systems to enhance reliability and manufacturability.
What you'll do
As a Mechanical Engineer at SpaceX, you will drive the design and development of mechanical systems across the Starship and Super Heavy vehicles. You will partner with peer design owners in avionics, power systems, and structures to ensure that the systems you design are optimized for performance and integration. Conducting design reviews with stakeholders will be a key part of your responsibilities, allowing you to gather feedback and iterate on your designs.
You will manage on-site integration teams, implementing feedback from integration processes into your designs. Your role will also involve diagnosing and operating vehicle mechanisms during ground testing and flight, ensuring that all systems function as intended. You will be entrusted with improving existing systems while also contributing to the design of the next generation of launch vehicles.
