Overview

SpaceX is hiring a Mechanical Engineer for the Starship Avionics team to design advanced avionics systems for space travel. You'll work with AutoCAD and SolidWorks to create high-reliability solutions. This position requires experience in mechanical design and analysis.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a strong background in mechanical engineering, with experience in designing custom instrumentation for extreme environments. Your expertise includes fluid and electro-mechanical assemblies, and you are comfortable participating in hands-on manufacturing processes such as pressure testing and thermal testing. You are proficient in thermal, structural, and tolerance analysis, utilizing both hand calculations and finite element analysis to ensure the reliability of your designs.

You are skilled in 3D modeling and the creation of production drawings, maintaining design data throughout the product lifecycle. Your experience includes conducting failure analysis of components, particularly in relation to thermal loads, vibration, and shock. You have a collaborative mindset, interfacing effectively with machine shops and production teams to ensure that final designs are manufacturable and meet stringent requirements.

What you'll do

As a Mechanical Engineer on the Starship avionics team, you will be responsible for designing avionics systems that are optimized for high reliability at low mass and cost. You will engage in the initial mechanical design phase, creating 3D models and production drawings that will guide the manufacturing process. Your role will involve performing rigorous thermal and structural analyses to validate your designs under extreme conditions.

You will participate in hands-on testing processes, including pressure and thermal testing, to ensure that the avionics systems meet the necessary performance criteria. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will contribute to the development of integrated product solutions that combine fluid and electro-mechanical components. Your insights will be crucial in conducting failure analyses, helping to identify potential issues before they arise in production.

What we offer

At SpaceX, you will be part of a mission-driven team that is revolutionizing space travel. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, along with the opportunity to work on groundbreaking technologies that will enable human life on Mars. You will have the chance to grow your skills in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with some of the brightest minds in the aerospace industry.
