Who you are
You have a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field and possess experience in designing and testing mechanical systems. You are skilled in using tools such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks to create detailed engineering drawings and schematics. You have a strong understanding of optical components and their testing requirements, and you are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where you can balance multiple high-priority projects. You demonstrate extreme ownership of all project phases, from initial concept to final commissioning and operation, and you are adept at collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to drive project success.
Desirable
Experience with optical systems and satellite technology is a plus. Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA) tools and hand calculations to inform design decisions will set you apart. You are a proactive communicator who can effectively manage time and resources to meet project deadlines.
What you'll do
As a Mechanical Engineer (Optical Test) at SpaceX, you will be responsible for the design and development of fixtures, mechanisms, and fluid systems to support the testing of satellite systems. You will work closely with technicians to build, assemble, and operate test systems, ensuring that all components meet the required specifications for safety and reliability. You will create detailed documentation for test systems, including engineering drawings and schematics, and utilize hand calculations and FEA tools to validate your design decisions.
