Overview

SpaceX is seeking a Mechanical Engineer specializing in Precision Machining for the Starlink project. You'll be responsible for developing manufacturing solutions for tight tolerance machined hardware. This role requires a Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering and at least 1 year of engineering experience.

Job Description

Who you are

You hold a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering, physics, or another engineering discipline, and you have at least 1 year of engineering experience. You are passionate about developing innovative solutions in the field of precision machining and are eager to contribute to cutting-edge space technology. Your background equips you with the skills necessary to interface effectively with design engineers and machinists, ensuring that design for manufacturability (DFM) feedback is implemented on both new and existing hardware iterations.

You possess a strong understanding of manufacturing and quality systems, particularly in relation to tight tolerance machined hardware. Your analytical mindset drives you to aggressively implement process improvements that enhance production quality and throughput. You are comfortable creating capital and facility justifications for large projects and process improvements, and you take ownership of these projects from inception through to implementation and activation.

Your experience includes developing quality plans for hardware, covering both dimensional inspection and functional testing. You are skilled in designing and fabricating tooling for machining, assembly, and inspection stations, which is crucial for ensuring the success of precision machined parts with single-digit micron tolerances.

Desirable

Experience with advanced manufacturing techniques or familiarity with satellite RF systems would be a plus. You are a proactive problem solver who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is excited about the prospect of contributing to SpaceX's mission of enabling human life on Mars.

What you'll do

As a Mechanical Engineer at Starlink, you will own product success for precision machined parts, ensuring they meet the stringent quality standards required for space applications. You will collaborate closely with design engineers and machinists to implement DFM feedback, which is essential for optimizing the manufacturability of new and existing hardware.

Your role will involve aggressively implementing process improvements to production processes, focusing on enhancing quality and throughput while adhering to challenging timelines. You will create capital and facility justifications for large projects and process improvements, taking ownership of these initiatives and guiding them through to successful implementation.

In addition, you will develop comprehensive quality plans for hardware, which will include dimensional inspection and functional testing protocols. Your responsibilities will also encompass designing and fabricating tooling for machining, assembly, and inspection stations, ensuring that all processes are efficient and effective.

What we offer

At SpaceX, you will be part of a team that is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of technology and innovation. You will have the opportunity to work on projects that have a significant impact on the future of space exploration. We offer a collaborative work environment where your contributions will be valued and recognized. Join us in our mission to make life multi-planetary and be part of a team that is shaping the future of humanity in space.
