Job Description
Who you are
You have experience in tooling maintenance and a strong understanding of precision tools and machines — your background includes performing preventative and corrective maintenance on complex systems. You are skilled in interpreting engineering requirements and can create detailed analyses and assessments of tooling. Your ability to maintain and repair advanced structures, such as custom friction stir welding machines and high-capacity test stands, sets you apart in this role.
You are adept at planning work to be performed and determining methods and sequences of operations — you can work from tool design drawings or your own designs. Your fabrication skills allow you to lay out, assemble, and create a variety of standard and nonstandard major jigs, fixtures, and tooling, ensuring exacting tolerances and dimensional features.
You possess the ability to develop and design holding devices and jig and fixture details — your suggestions for design changes are practical and economically sound, contributing to the overall efficiency of the manufacturing process. You are comfortable making determinations regarding the fabrication and design of detail parts, submitting them for approval to the appropriate personnel.
Your technical skills include setting up and operating optical instruments to check alignment and fit — you understand the importance of precision in tooling and strive for excellence in every task you undertake. You are a proactive problem solver who enjoys collaborating with engineering teams to enhance tooling processes and designs.
What you'll do
As a Tooling Maintenance Technician at SpaceX, you will be responsible for performing preventative and corrective maintenance on all custom tooling — your expertise will ensure that our tooling remains in optimal condition for production. You will inspect and analyze precision tools and machines, creating detailed assessments that inform maintenance strategies. Your role will involve maintaining and repairing advanced structures, including custom friction stir welding machines and high-capacity test stands, which are critical to our manufacturing processes.
You will plan and execute work based on tool design drawings, determining the most effective methods and sequences for operations. Your skills in fabricating and assembling jigs, fixtures, and tooling will be essential as you work with both standard and nonstandard components, ensuring that all tooling meets exacting tolerances and specifications.
In addition to maintenance tasks, you will develop and design holding devices and jig details — your insights will help improve the practicality and economy of our tooling designs. You will collaborate closely with engineering personnel, making recommendations for design changes that enhance manufacturing processes.
