Overview

SpaceX is hiring a Thermal Hardware Engineer for the Starship project to develop and qualify thermal protection systems. You'll work on innovative solutions for reentry heat shields and collaborate closely with production teams at Starbase.

You have a strong background in mechanical engineering or a related field, with experience in thermal protection systems and hardware design. You are skilled in analyzing and troubleshooting complex thermal challenges, and you thrive in hands-on environments where you can see your designs come to life. You possess excellent problem-solving abilities and are comfortable working collaboratively with cross-functional teams to achieve mission success.

You have a passion for aerospace and a desire to contribute to groundbreaking technologies that enable human life on Mars. Your ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders allows you to drive projects forward and ensure alignment across teams. You are detail-oriented and committed to continuous improvement, always seeking ways to enhance the performance and reliability of thermal systems.

What you'll do

As a Thermal Hardware Engineer, you will be responsible for developing, testing, and qualifying new thermal protection system solutions for the Starship architecture. You will own the outcome of thermal challenges, setting up end-to-end solutions from concept to flying hardware. Your role will involve analyzing and troubleshooting post-flight conditions on vehicle heat shields to drive improvements and coordinate with production teams to resolve issues on the floor and with flight hardware.

You will engage in detailed mechanical design and thermal-structural modeling, ensuring that the thermal protection systems meet the rigorous demands of atmospheric reentry at hypersonic speeds. Your work will directly contribute to the success of SpaceX's mission to explore the stars, and you will have the opportunity to collaborate with some of the brightest minds in the aerospace industry.
