Overview
SpaceX is hiring a Vehicle Controls Engineer to support the functional checkouts of Starship/Superheavy vehicles. You'll work on establishing test criteria and troubleshooting hardware issues. This role requires a bachelor's degree in engineering and 2+ years of experience with fluid systems.
Job Description
Who you are
You hold a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline and have at least 2 years of project or professional experience with fluid systems. You possess a deep understanding of vehicle construction and avionics/propulsion architecture, which allows you to effectively interface with both engineering and technicians in the field. Your experience includes creating, reading, and interpreting electrical and fluid schematics, showcasing your systems engineering capabilities. You thrive in fast-paced environments and are eager to contribute to SpaceX's mission of colonizing Mars.
Desirable
An advanced degree in mechanical engineering is preferred, as is experience working in high-pressure testing environments. Familiarity with hazardous testing operations and the ability to troubleshoot hardware issues in real-time will set you apart. You are comfortable leading operations that validate vehicle builds and ensure that propellant and electrical systems are constructed according to design intent.
What you'll do
As a Vehicle Controls Engineer, you will play a crucial role in helping SpaceX achieve its long-term goal of colonizing Mars. You will directly support functional checkouts of Starship/Superheavy vehicles, establishing test criteria and pass/fail requirements for integrated vehicle checkouts. Your responsibilities will include leading hazardous testing operations to validate vehicle builds and ensuring that all systems are built per design intent. You will also perform pressurized checkouts and electrical/sensor checkouts via control console, developing procedures and processes for first-article validation. Your role will require you to troubleshoot hardware issues in real-time, driving feedback to correct owners to eliminate repeat issues. You will work closely with both engineering and technicians in the field, developing a deep understanding of vehicle construction and avionics/propulsion architecture.
What we offer
At SpaceX, you will be part of a team that is actively developing technologies to make human life on Mars possible. You will have the opportunity to work on groundbreaking projects that push the boundaries of engineering and technology. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we value diverse backgrounds and perspectives. Join us in our mission to explore the stars and make history.
