Overview

SPAN is seeking a Staff Mobile Developer to lead the technical direction of their mobile solutions. You'll work with React Native and collaborate closely with product and design teams to create industry-leading customer experiences. This role requires significant experience in mobile development and technical leadership.

Job Description

Who you are

You are an experienced mobile technical leader with a strong background in mobile development — you have a proven track record of architecting and driving mobile solutions that enhance user experiences. With your expertise in React Native, you are well-versed in designing, implementing, and testing features that resonate with users. You thrive in a collaborative environment, working closely with product and design teams to execute a strategic vision for mobile applications.

You possess a deep understanding of code craft and are committed to maintaining high standards in software development — your experience includes driving the team's commitment to cutting-edge tooling, monitoring, and test-driven development (TDD). You are passionate about sharing knowledge and fostering a culture of learning within your team through pair programming, code reviews, and presentations.

Your ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with cross-functional teams is one of your key strengths — you have experience partnering with firmware and backend engineers to ensure seamless integration with hardware products. You are also comfortable working with QA and Platform Infrastructure teams to establish efficient quality systems and reliable deployment processes.

You are adaptable and agile, ready to explore new areas of expertise and responsibility as SPAN continues to grow — your experience in the energy industry and with IoT devices is a bonus, as it aligns with SPAN's mission to innovate in this space.

Desirable

Experience working with gRPC and Protobuf is a plus, as is familiarity with maintaining Monorepo projects. Your background in these areas will help you contribute to architectural best practices and scalability efforts as SPAN aims to expand its reach to millions of homes.

What you'll do

In this role, you will guide and drive the technical direction for SPAN's mobile architecture — you will lead the mobile team in defining and socializing architectural best practices, especially in anticipation of major migrations. Your leadership will be crucial in collaborating with other functional tech leads to enhance scalability efforts, ensuring that SPAN's mobile solutions can effectively serve a growing user base.

You will work closely with product and design teams to iteratively deliver value in a fast-paced environment — your insights will help shape the mobile product strategy and execution. You will also be responsible for driving the team's commitment to code quality and best practices, ensuring that the mobile applications are not only functional but also provide an exceptional user experience.

As a staff mobile engineer, you will play a pivotal role in growing the knowledge of your team — you will share your expertise through mentoring, code reviews, and documentation, fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Your collaboration with firmware and backend engineers will be essential in influencing seamless integration with SPAN's hardware products, ensuring that the mobile applications work harmoniously with the overall system.

You will also partner with QA and Platform Infrastructure teams to establish a robust quality system — your focus on CI/CD practices will help streamline testing and deployment processes, enabling the team to deliver updates and new features efficiently.

What we offer

At SPAN, you will be part of a dynamic startup environment where your contributions will have a direct impact on the company's success — you will have the opportunity to work on innovative projects that redefine how users interact with energy solutions in their homes. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we value diverse perspectives and backgrounds.

Join us in our mission to empower users with insights and control over their energy consumption — your work will help shape the future of energy management and contribute to a more sustainable world.
