Upstart is hiring a Principal Software Engineer in Site Reliability to enhance the reliability and performance of their AI lending platform. You'll work with technologies like AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes to ensure system stability and scalability. This role requires significant experience in site reliability engineering.
Job Description
Who you are
You have a strong background in site reliability engineering with at least 7 years of experience in building and maintaining large-scale distributed systems. Your expertise in AWS and cloud infrastructure allows you to design resilient architectures that can handle high traffic and ensure uptime. You are proficient in containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes, which you use to streamline deployment processes and improve system reliability.
Your programming skills in Python enable you to automate tasks and develop monitoring solutions that provide insights into system performance. You understand the importance of infrastructure as code and have hands-on experience with Terraform to manage cloud resources efficiently. Your familiarity with Linux systems allows you to troubleshoot and optimize performance across various environments.
You are a collaborative team player who enjoys working with cross-functional teams to solve complex problems. Your strong communication skills help you articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, ensuring everyone is aligned on project goals. You are passionate about improving processes and implementing best practices in site reliability to enhance overall system performance.
Desirable
Experience with monitoring tools like Prometheus or Grafana is a plus, as it helps you maintain visibility into system health. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and tools such as Jenkins or GitLab CI will further enhance your ability to deliver reliable software quickly. You will lead initiatives to improve system reliability through automation and best practices, reducing manual intervention and enhancing operational efficiency. You will also mentor junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the team.
As a Principal Software Engineer, you will play a key role in incident management, leading post-mortem analyses to identify root causes and implement preventive measures.
