Job Description

Who you are

You have over 5 years of software engineering experience, with a strong focus on mobile development. Your expertise in Flutter and Dart allows you to create high-quality mobile applications that meet user needs effectively. You also possess substantial backend engineering experience, ensuring that you can contribute to both the mobile and server-side aspects of projects. Your strong comfort with JavaScript or Python enables you to adapt to new tools and languages as necessary, making you a versatile member of the team. You have a keen enthusiasm for learning about the Congressional data environment, which is crucial for the role. Additionally, you understand best practices for resilience and fault-tolerance in data integrations, ensuring that the applications you build are robust and reliable.

You bring a civic tech background that aligns with Verdance's mission to improve government services. Your experience includes enough infrastructure knowledge to comfortably engage in DevOps tasks when required. You understand the importance of unit testing and CI/CD processes, which are essential for maintaining high-quality code. You are committed to writing efficient and maintainable code, and you have a desire to learn about government operations to help make them better. Your professionalism, curiosity, and humility are qualities that will contribute positively to the team culture.

Desirable

While not mandatory, having experience in a small company focused on thoughtful growth would be beneficial. You should be comfortable working in a collaborative environment where your input is valued, and you are encouraged to share your ideas and insights.

What you'll do

In this role, you will join Verdance to improve government digital services by developing a mobile app and backend for a Congressional customer. Your initial project will involve creating a mobile application that allows staff, journalists, and the public to track Congressional activity in real time. You will work closely with various government agencies, ensuring that the digital services you build are user-friendly and effective. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with cross-functional teams to define project requirements and deliver high-quality software solutions.

You will be expected to engage in both mobile and backend development, leveraging your skills in Flutter and Dart for the mobile app while utilizing your backend engineering experience to ensure seamless integration and functionality. You will also participate in code reviews and contribute to the overall architecture of the applications, ensuring that they are scalable and maintainable. Your role will require you to stay updated on best practices in mobile development and backend engineering, allowing you to implement the latest technologies and methodologies.

As part of your responsibilities, you will also engage in DevOps tasks where necessary, contributing to the deployment and monitoring of applications in a cloud environment. You will be involved in writing unit tests and implementing CI/CD pipelines to ensure that the code you produce is reliable and meets quality standards. Your ability to communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders will be crucial in driving project success and ensuring that user needs are met.

What we offer

At Verdance, you will be part of a small, dedicated team focused on making a positive impact in government technology. We offer a collaborative work environment where your contributions are valued, and you have the opportunity to grow professionally. You will have the chance to work on meaningful projects that directly affect public services, providing you with a sense of purpose in your work. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we value diverse perspectives and backgrounds. Our team members must have lived in the US for 3 out of the past 5 years, and you will need to pass a public trust government background investigation to work on government projects.
