Who you are

You have a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and at least 3 years of industry experience in software engineering. You possess mastery of at least one common server programming language, such as Java or Python, and have a strong understanding of scalable backend design, including databases, queues, and blob storage. Your experience working in an agile team environment has equipped you with the skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

What you'll do

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Verkada, you will be responsible for building scalable backend systems that support the indexing of hundreds of millions of images daily. You will work closely with the Computer Vision team to develop systems that recognize objects and alert customers to situations of interest. Your role will involve designing and implementing robust APIs that facilitate seamless data flow and integration with various components of the security platform.

You will participate in code reviews and contribute to the overall architecture of the backend systems, ensuring they are efficient and maintainable. Your expertise will guide the team in adopting best practices for software development, including testing strategies and performance optimization. You will also have the opportunity to mentor junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and helping them grow in their careers.

Collaboration is key in this role, as you will work alongside product managers, designers, and other engineers to define requirements and deliver high-quality features. You will be involved in the entire software development lifecycle, from initial design through deployment and monitoring, ensuring that the systems you build meet the needs of our customers.
