You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience building production systems at scale — you've owned services from design through deployment and have navigated complex distributed systems issues. Your expertise in Java and Spring is deep — you've shipped high-throughput APIs that handle millions of requests and have strong opinions on service architecture, dependency injection, and testing strategies. You thrive in collaborative environments, working alongside mobile and frontend engineers to deliver best-in-class products and experiences. You are excited by new products and startups, and you think about delivering value to users rather than just features. You are comfortable taking ownership of projects and enjoy the autonomy that comes with working in a startup-like atmosphere. You are a strong communicator, able to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate effectively across teams.

Desirable

Experience with cloud-based systems and an understanding of security protocols would be a plus. Familiarity with agile methodologies and a background in physical security solutions can enhance your candidacy. You are open to learning new technologies and adapting to evolving project requirements.

What you'll do

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Verkada, you will take ownership of one or more projects on various product or platform-facing teams.
