You are proficient in Python and have a solid understanding of robotics and decision-making processes. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with hardware and systems engineers to integrate software solutions effectively.
You are passionate about advancing autonomous driving technology and have a keen interest in applying cutting-edge research to real-world problems. Your curiosity drives you to explore innovative approaches, and you are comfortable working with large datasets and complex models. You understand the importance of safety and reliability in autonomous systems and are committed to delivering high-quality solutions that enhance user experience.
Desirable

What you'll do
In this role, you will lead efforts in developing and optimizing sensor pipelines that are critical for the perception capabilities of the Waymo Driver. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement machine learning models that improve detection accuracy and response times in various driving scenarios. Your work will involve analyzing data from multiple sensors, applying sensor fusion techniques, and ensuring that the algorithms you develop can operate effectively in real-time environments.
You will also engage in research and development activities, exploring new methodologies and technologies that can enhance the performance of the Waymo Driver. This includes experimenting with generative AI approaches to address challenges such as collision detection and sensing occlusions. You will be responsible for conducting experiments, analyzing results, and iterating on your designs to achieve optimal outcomes.
As a Staff Machine Learning Engineer, you will mentor junior engineers and contribute to the growth of the team by sharing your knowledge and expertise. You will participate in code reviews, provide feedback on best practices, and help shape the technical direction of projects. Your contributions will directly impact the safety and efficiency of autonomous driving systems, making a meaningful difference in the mobility landscape.

Waymo offers a competitive salary range of $238,000—$302,000 USD, along with eligibility for an annual bonus program and equity incentive plan.
