Who you are
You have 5+ years of software engineering experience, particularly in developing complex systems that require a deep understanding of robotics and perception. Your expertise in Java is complemented by a strong foundation in deep learning, enabling you to tackle the challenges of autonomous driving technology. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with hardware and systems engineers to create safe and efficient solutions. Your curiosity about Level 4 autonomous driving drives you to stay updated with the latest advancements in the field, and you are eager to contribute to a mission that aims to improve mobility and safety on the roads.
Desirable
Experience with machine learning frameworks and tools is a plus, as is familiarity with simulation environments used in autonomous vehicle development. You have a knack for problem-solving and can gracefully handle complex situations that involve social interactions on the road, such as merging and negotiating narrow spaces. Your ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams ensures that everyone is aligned towards the common goal of delivering a reliable autonomous driving experience.
What you'll do
In this hybrid role, you will report to the Technical Lead Manager and work with a talented team focused on ensuring that the Waymo Driver behaves safely and predictably in various driving scenarios. You will be responsible for developing and refining algorithms that allow the vehicle to perceive its environment and make informed decisions. Your work will involve deep collaboration with other engineers to address the unique challenges posed by autonomous driving, including the integration of perception and decision-making systems. You will also engage in rigorous testing and validation processes to ensure the reliability of the software you develop.
Your contributions will directly impact the Waymo Driver's performance, enhancing its ability to navigate complex urban environments. You will participate in code reviews and provide mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the team.
