Who you are
You have 5+ years of experience in software engineering, particularly in roles that involve data analysis and algorithm development. Your background includes a strong understanding of machine learning principles and how to apply them to real-world problems, especially in the context of autonomous systems. You are proficient in statistics and have a solid grasp of algorithms, enabling you to develop effective signals for measuring performance. You thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy working with cross-functional teams to drive impactful results.
You are passionate about autonomous vehicles and the technology that powers them. Your experience includes working with complex datasets and using them to inform decision-making processes. You have a keen interest in how data can be leveraged to improve software quality and driving performance. You are comfortable with simulation techniques and have experience mining real-world driving logs to extract meaningful insights.
Desirable
Experience with software evaluation in autonomous systems is a plus. Familiarity with the challenges of measuring driving performance and quality in real-time systems will set you apart. You are also encouraged to bring any additional skills in programming languages relevant to data analysis and machine learning.
What you'll do
In this role, you will be responsible for developing signals that measure the performance and driving qualities of the Waymo Driver. You will employ a range of techniques, including statistics, algorithms, and machine learning, to enhance the evaluation process. Your work will involve designing and implementing methods that strengthen the connection between onboard software and driving performance metrics. You will collaborate closely with the Planner Evaluation team to ensure that the software meets the highest standards of quality and reliability.
You will utilize simulation creatively to assess the Waymo Driver's capabilities and mine real-world driving logs to gather data for analysis. Your insights will directly contribute to improving the Waymo Driver's performance, ultimately enhancing the safety and efficiency of autonomous driving technology. You will report to an Engineering Manager and work in a hybrid environment, balancing remote work with in-office collaboration.
