Who you are

You have a BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, or a similar technical field, along with general software engineering experience. Your programming skills in C++ are robust and efficient, allowing you to tackle complex engineering problems effectively. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with teams to ensure the safety and predictability of autonomous vehicles. You are adept at framing open-ended real-world problems into well-defined engineering challenges, demonstrating your analytical and problem-solving skills. Your experience includes developing tools and algorithms that can scale to handle large data pipelines, ensuring they run in real-time on vehicles. You are passionate about improving mobility and safety through technology, and you are eager to contribute to a mission-driven company like Waymo.

Desirable

Experience in machine learning or robotics is a plus, as is familiarity with data pipelines and real-time systems. You are comfortable working with complex situations involving social aspects of driving, such as merging and negotiating narrow roads. You have a keen interest in the latest advancements in autonomous driving technology and are excited about the potential impact of your work.

What you'll do

In this hybrid role, you will report to a Team Lead of Planner Technology and work with a creative team responsible for ensuring the behavior of Waymo's cars is safe, smooth, and predictable. You will frame open-ended real-world problems into well-defined engineering problems, developing tools and algorithms that enhance the performance of the Waymo Driver. Your work will involve scaling these solutions to Google-sized data pipelines and streamlining them for real-time execution on vehicles. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to address complex driving scenarios, ensuring that the Waymo Driver can handle various situations with confidence. Your contributions will directly impact the safety and efficiency of autonomous driving, making a difference in the lives of riders.

What we offer

Waymo offers a competitive salary range of $170,000 to $216,000 USD, along with eligibility for a discretionary annual bonus program and an equity incentive plan. You will also benefit from a generous company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.
