Waymo is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer specializing in Vehicle Security to develop and manage vehicle system security requirements. You'll collaborate with OEMs and Systems Engineers to implement security architecture. This role requires expertise in security concepts and vehicle platforms.
Job Description
Who you are
You have 5+ years of experience in systems engineering with a focus on security — you've developed and managed security requirements for complex systems and understand the nuances of vehicle platforms. Your background includes working closely with OEMs and other engineering teams to define and implement security architectures that protect critical systems. You are familiar with security concepts such as Digital Key and SOTA, and you have a strong grasp of the challenges involved in securing vehicle networks and modules.
You thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy working with diverse teams of engineers — your communication skills allow you to effectively convey complex security requirements to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You are detail-oriented and have a proactive approach to identifying potential security vulnerabilities and implementing effective solutions. You are passionate about the future of autonomous driving technology and are eager to contribute to making it safer for everyone.
Desirable
Experience with automotive security standards and protocols would be a plus — you understand the regulatory landscape and can navigate compliance requirements effectively. Familiarity with threat modeling and risk assessment methodologies is also desirable, as is experience in developing security testing strategies for vehicle systems.
What you'll do
In this role, you will develop and own comprehensive vehicle system security requirements that align with the high-level vehicle platform security strategy. You will work closely with OEMs and adjacent Systems Engineers to define and implement the vehicle network and module security architecture. Your responsibilities will include defining and managing requirements for vehicle platform features based on security concepts, such as Digital Key and SOTA.
You will also be responsible for conducting security assessments and audits of vehicle systems, identifying vulnerabilities, and recommending mitigation strategies. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will ensure that security considerations are integrated into the design and development processes of new vehicle platforms. You will participate in incident response planning and execution, helping to establish protocols for addressing security breaches and vulnerabilities.
Your role will involve staying up-to-date with the latest trends and advancements in vehicle security technologies — you will be expected to contribute to the continuous improvement of security practices within the organization. You will also mentor junior engineers and provide guidance on best practices in systems security.
What we offer
Waymo offers a competitive salary range of $196,000—$248,000 USD, along with eligibility for a discretionary annual bonus program and an equity incentive plan. You will have access to a generous benefits program that supports your health and well-being. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement — we value diverse perspectives and are committed to fostering an inclusive workplace. Join us in our mission to make autonomous driving technology the safest and most trusted option for mobility.
