Who you are
You have a strong background in safety engineering, particularly in the context of autonomous systems. Your experience includes leading cross-functional teams to perform safety analyses and identify potential hazards and their causes. You are skilled in assessing safety risks both qualitatively and quantitatively, ensuring that safety considerations are integrated throughout the design and development processes. You are familiar with regulatory requirements and have experience working with regulatory authorities, lawmakers, and public organizations to promote safety strategies for autonomous vehicles.
You possess excellent communication skills, enabling you to articulate complex safety concepts to diverse stakeholders. You are detail-oriented and have a proactive approach to problem-solving, which allows you to anticipate safety challenges and develop effective strategies to address them. Your collaborative mindset helps you work effectively with engineers, product managers, and other team members to ensure that safety is a priority in all aspects of the project.
Desirable
Experience with SOTIF (Safety of the Intended Functionality) is a plus, as it will enhance your ability to contribute to the development of safety goals and strategies. Familiarity with autonomous vehicle technologies and their associated safety challenges will also be beneficial in this role.
What you'll do
In this role, you will lead efforts to conduct comprehensive safety analyses for Waymo's autonomous driving technology. You will identify potential hazards and assess their causes, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that safety is prioritized in all design and development phases. Your expertise will be crucial in defining safety goals and strategies that align with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
You will collaborate with engineers and product managers to integrate safety considerations into the development process, ensuring that safety is a fundamental aspect of the Waymo Driver's design. You will also be responsible for advising on compliance with applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations, helping to promote a culture of safety within the organization.
Your role will involve continuous improvement of safety strategies and policies, as well as engaging with external stakeholders to advocate for safety in autonomous driving. You will contribute to the development of safety engineering analyses that support the overall mission of Waymo to be the world's most trusted driver.

Waymo offers a competitive salary range of $196,000—$248,000 USD, along with eligibility for a discretionary annual bonus program and equity incentive plan.
