Who you are

You have extensive experience in legal counsel, particularly in the payments sector, with a strong understanding of consumer experiences and merchant relationships. You are adept at navigating complex legal frameworks and have a proven track record of advising on the design and development of payment systems. Your collaborative spirit allows you to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including Product, Engineering, and Business Development, ensuring that legal considerations are integrated into product development from the outset. You possess excellent communication skills, enabling you to articulate legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders clearly and effectively. You are proactive in identifying potential legal issues and providing solutions that align with business objectives. You are committed to fostering an inclusive and respectful workplace, valuing diverse perspectives and experiences.

What you'll do

In this role, you will lead the legal support for Whatnot’s payments and financial services initiatives, advising on everything from new payment features to large-scale partnerships with processors and card networks. You will work closely with the Product and Engineering teams to ensure that all payment systems comply with applicable laws and regulations. Your responsibilities will include drafting and reviewing contracts related to payment processing, advising on risk management strategies, and ensuring that consumer protection laws are upheld. You will also collaborate with the Business Development team to negotiate agreements with financial partners, ensuring that Whatnot's interests are protected while fostering strong relationships. You will stay informed about industry trends and regulatory changes, providing guidance to the company on how these may impact operations. Your role will be crucial in helping Whatnot navigate the evolving landscape of e-commerce and payments, ensuring that the company remains compliant while innovating in the marketplace.
