Who you are

You have 4+ years of experience developing scalable and reliable backend services — you've successfully built and maintained production systems that prioritize user privacy and performance. Your proficiency with programming languages such as Go, Ruby, Python, C++, Java, and Kotlin allows you to choose the right tool for the job, ensuring efficient and effective solutions.

You possess in-depth knowledge of common databases and messaging systems like PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Kafka, and RabbitMQ — you understand how to optimize database interactions and manage data flow in distributed systems. Your intermediate or higher English proficiency enables you to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, ensuring that project goals are met collaboratively.

You are passionate about writing clean, scalable, and efficient code — you take pride in your ability to implement new microservices while also supporting and improving existing ones. Your experience with unit testing and participation in integration and system testing ensures that the software you develop meets high-quality standards.

You thrive in a collaborative environment, working closely with designers, testers, and product managers to gather requirements and discuss project goals — your ability to review and provide feedback on code written by peers fosters a culture of consistency, readability, and efficiency within the team.

Desirable

Experience with cloud services such as AWS, and familiarity with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform and Kubernetes are highly valued — these skills will help you contribute to our current stack, which includes Go microservices, a shrinking Ruby monolith, Node.js, and various databases.

What you'll do

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Wheely, you will be responsible for building and maintaining scalable backend services that support our unique ride-hailing platform. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and discuss project goals, ensuring that the technical solutions align with business objectives.

You will participate in the analysis, design, and evaluation of technical requirements, collaborating with your team to create robust and efficient systems. Writing clean, scalable, and efficient code in Go will be a primary focus, as you implement new microservices and enhance existing ones to meet the growing demands of our service.

Your role will also involve performing unit testing and participating in integration and system testing to ensure the quality of the software — you will take ownership of the testing process, ensuring that all components function seamlessly together.

In addition to coding, you will review and provide feedback on code written by your peers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the team. Maintaining technical documentation, including software design documents and user guides, will be essential to ensure that all team members have access to the information they need to succeed.
