You have a strong background in designing and implementing replication topologies, which is essential for maintaining data consistency and availability.

You possess a deep understanding of database schemas and queries — your ability to consult on schema design and oversee changes ensures that the database structure supports the evolving needs of the applications it serves. You are comfortable working in a collaborative environment, partnering with Site Reliability Engineers and other stakeholders to optimize database performance.

What you'll do

As a Staff Database Administrator, you will be responsible for the health and performance of Wikimedia’s production relational database systems — your role is critical in ensuring that the data supporting Wikipedia and its sister projects is reliable and accessible. You will deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot database systems, ensuring they operate smoothly across various environments.

You will design and implement multi-site replication topologies, which are essential for maintaining data integrity and availability — your expertise will help streamline processes and improve overall system performance. You will consult on database schema design and oversee changes, ensuring that the database structure aligns with application requirements and best practices.

You will collaborate closely with the SRE Data Persistence team, contributing to the development and optimization of Wikimedia’s production storage and retrieval systems — your insights will help shape the future of how data is managed and utilized within the organization. You will also have the opportunity to mentor junior team members, sharing your knowledge and expertise to foster a culture of learning and growth.
