Overview

Xcimer Energy is hiring a Laser Engineer to design, build, and optimize pulsed laser systems for inertial fusion energy applications. You'll collaborate with various engineering teams to enhance laser diagnostics and maintain system reliability. This role requires expertise in laser systems and problem-solving skills.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a strong background in laser engineering, with experience in designing and operating pulsed laser systems. Your technical expertise allows you to enhance and optimize laser beam quality effectively, and you are comfortable working with vendors to procure necessary hardware for upgrades. You possess excellent problem-solving skills and a dedication to quality, which enables you to maintain and troubleshoot laser systems efficiently.

You are skilled in aligning complex laser beam paths and calibrating laser diagnostics equipment. Your collaborative nature allows you to work closely with optics engineers and other team members to ensure that the laser systems meet experimental needs. You are proactive in identifying opportunities for improvement in current diagnostics and are adept at writing clear requirements for new developments.

What you'll do

As a Laser Engineer at Xcimer Energy, you will play a crucial role in the design, modification, and operation of both new and existing pulsed laser systems. Your responsibilities will include enhancing laser beam quality and maintaining the reliability of laser systems through realignment and troubleshooting. You will conduct spectroscopic experiments and collect data to support ongoing research in inertial fusion energy.

You will collaborate with experimentalists, theorists, optics engineers, and controls engineers to ensure that the laser systems operate reliably and effectively support experimental needs. Your role will also involve coordinating with vendors to resolve component malfunctions and quickly bring systems back online. You will be part of a dedicated team focused on deploying fusion power plants to meet global decarbonization goals, contributing to a cleaner energy future.
