23andMe is hiring a Director of Philanthropy & Development to lead fundraising efforts and build relationships with donors. This role requires strategic thinking and empathy to connect funders with impactful work.
Job Description
Who you are
You have a deep understanding of philanthropy as a partnership rather than just funding — you see donors as co-creators in impact and can lead with empathy and strategy. Your experience in building relationships with high-net-worth individuals and institutional funders is extensive, and you know how to develop and steward these relationships to bring in significant support for a mission-driven organization.
You are skilled in shaping fundraising strategies and telling compelling stories that resonate with potential donors. Your ability to work closely with senior leadership, including the CEO and Board, allows you to align fundraising efforts with the organization's goals and ambitions. You understand the importance of integrity in donor experiences and strive to ensure that every interaction reflects the organization's mission.
What you'll do
In this pivotal role, you will build and lead a best-in-class philanthropy and development function from the ground up. You will implement a multi-year development strategy that aligns with the organization's vision and goals. Your responsibilities will include identifying and engaging with potential donors, crafting tailored proposals, and managing the donor stewardship process to ensure long-term relationships.
You will collaborate with various teams to create impactful fundraising campaigns and initiatives that highlight the organization's work in genetic discovery and medical research. Your leadership will be crucial in fostering a culture of philanthropy within the organization, encouraging staff and stakeholders to engage in fundraising efforts. You will also analyze fundraising performance metrics to refine strategies and improve outcomes.
What we offer
23andMe offers a competitive salary range of $220,000—$300,000 USD for candidates based in the San Francisco Bay Area. You will have the opportunity to work in a mission-driven environment that values scientific advancement and community engagement.
