Who you are

You have over 5 years of experience as a software engineer, with a strong focus on backend development. Your expertise includes designing and implementing APIs that are robust and scalable, ensuring they meet the needs of enterprise merchants and partners. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with product management, design, and analytics teams to drive product development and innovation.

You possess deep knowledge of Java and REST API design principles, having successfully delivered high-quality software solutions in previous roles. Your experience includes managing the entire API lifecycle, from conception through deployment and maintenance, ensuring that the solutions you create are efficient and user-friendly. You are proactive in monitoring system performance and are comfortable supporting on-call efforts to maintain operational excellence.

You are a strong communicator, able to articulate technical constraints and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Your problem-solving skills enable you to navigate complex challenges and make informed decisions that balance risks and trade-offs. You are also committed to fostering a sense of community within your team, engaging in growth and development activities, and participating in the interview process to help build a strong engineering culture.

What you'll do

In this role, you will break down larger projects into manageable tasks and deliver them in multiple phases, ensuring timely completion while maintaining high standards of quality. You will contribute to the entire API lifecycle, including designing, developing, testing, and evolving APIs that power Affirm’s integrations with enterprise merchants. Your responsibilities will also include creating and monitoring metrics to support the operations and availability of your team’s artifacts.

You will collaborate with stakeholders throughout the product development lifecycle, participating in ideation sessions and providing insights that consider both technical constraints and user needs. Your role will involve working closely with product management and design teams to build custom end-to-end integrated solutions that enhance the checkout and onboarding experience for merchants.

You will also engage in continuous improvement efforts, identifying opportunities to optimize existing systems and processes. By supporting your peers and stakeholders, you will help drive the success of the Partner Merchant Interface team and contribute to Affirm's mission of making credit more honest and friendly.
