Job Description
Who you are
You have a strong background in opto-mechanical design and analysis, particularly in space-based and ground-based systems. With 5+ years of experience, you have a proven track record of working on complex programs and collaborating with diverse teams to deliver innovative solutions. Your expertise includes making optimization trades for optical payloads and system architectures, ensuring that all designs meet stringent requirements. You are a hands-on engineer who thrives in collaborative environments, combining technical skills with analytical capabilities to convert trade studies into space-qualified payloads.
You possess excellent communication skills, allowing you to effectively convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Your focus on customer needs drives your work, and you are adept at conducting analyses to demonstrate that proposed solutions align with customer goals. You are comfortable leading projects and mentoring junior engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement within your team.
Desirable
Experience with satellite systems and ground applications is a plus, as is familiarity with STOP analyses. A background in electro-mechanical systems integration will further enhance your ability to contribute to the team. You are also encouraged to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we value diverse perspectives and skills.
What you'll do
As a Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the Amazon Leo for Government initiative, which aims to provide high-speed broadband connectivity through a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites. You will be responsible for the design and analysis of optical systems and sub-systems, ensuring that they meet the specific needs of government customers. Your work will involve close collaboration with the core LEO team and other engineering disciplines to deliver targeted and scalable solutions.
You will conduct detailed analyses and design reviews, making optimization trades to ensure that optical payloads are efficient and effective. Your role will require you to stay hands-on, engaging in the practical aspects of engineering while also leading strategic discussions about system architecture and integration. You will be expected to document your findings and present them to stakeholders, demonstrating how your designs meet customer requirements.
In addition to your technical responsibilities, you will mentor junior engineers, helping them develop their skills and understanding of opto-mechanical systems. You will foster a collaborative environment where team members feel supported and empowered to contribute their ideas and expertise. Your leadership will be crucial in driving the success of the projects you are involved in, ensuring that they are completed on time and to the highest standards.
