Overview

Amazon is hiring a Systems Development Engineer for the AWS Center for Quantum Computing to develop and maintain high-performance computing systems. You'll work with AWS technologies and collaborate with scientists and engineers in quantum computing. This position requires experience in HPC systems and cloud environments.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a strong background in systems engineering with a focus on high-performance computing (HPC) systems — your experience includes developing and maintaining cloud-based environments that support complex applications. You are proficient in AWS and have hands-on experience with Linux, Docker, and Kubernetes, enabling you to automate deployment and manage clusters effectively.

Your programming skills in Python and C++ allow you to build robust applications and troubleshoot issues efficiently — you understand the intricacies of parallel computing and have worked with MPI and OpenMP to optimize performance. You are a collaborative team player who enjoys working with scientists and engineers to enhance computational capabilities.

You are proactive in anticipating computational resource needs and have a keen interest in quantum computing — your ability to improve system performance and reliability is a key asset. You thrive in environments that require innovative solutions and are eager to contribute to the development of scalable fault-tolerant quantum computers.

What you'll do

In this role, you will administer cloud-based HPC environments, focusing on automating the deployment and maintenance of clusters — you will also manage user accounts and ensure the security of these systems. Your responsibilities will include debugging problems and improving the robustness of the HPC environment to support computer-aided engineering applications.

You will collaborate with partner teams and software developers to enhance system availability across different instance types — managing data spread across clusters in various regions will be a critical part of your work. You will also contribute to expanding the capabilities of the AWS Center for Quantum Computing, enabling the development of advanced quantum computing hardware.

Your role will involve anticipating future computational needs and implementing improvements to the computational infrastructure — you will leverage the scalable compute power of AWS to accelerate design cycles and enhance physical modeling capabilities. You will be part of a dynamic team that is at the forefront of quantum computing technology, driving innovation and excellence in the field.

What we offer

Amazon offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, financial, and other perks — you will have the opportunity to work in a cutting-edge environment that fosters growth and innovation. The AWS Center for Quantum Computing is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace where you can thrive and make a significant impact.

You will be part of a team that values collaboration and encourages you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement — we believe that diverse perspectives lead to better solutions. Join us in shaping the future of quantum computing and be part of a mission that is transforming technology.
