Job Description
Who you are
You have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and at least 3 years of experience in product design, particularly in the consumer electronics or wearable technology sectors. Your background includes working with detailed mechanical design and you possess a strong understanding of materials and manufacturing processes. You demonstrate creativity in problem-solving and can adapt quickly to new technical areas, showcasing your ability to think dynamically and outside of standard conventions.
Your experience includes collaborating with cross-functional teams, such as Industrial Design and Electrical Engineering, to bring innovative products to life. You are comfortable with international travel, as this role may require you to engage with overseas manufacturers. You have a passion for innovation and a commitment to improving hardware performance and user experience.
Desirable
Experience with CAD software, particularly AutoCAD and SolidWorks, is preferred. Familiarity with the design and manufacturing of wearable devices or similar products will be advantageous. You are a team player who thrives in a collaborative environment and is eager to contribute to the development of groundbreaking technology.
What you'll do
As a Product Design Engineer on the WATCH team, you will be responsible for defining and designing the mechanical components of Apple's first wearable product line. You will work closely with various teams, including Industrial Design, Electrical Engineering, and Marketing, to ensure that the mechanical parts meet both aesthetic and functional requirements. Your role will involve creating detailed designs and specifications for all mechanical parts, including the watch casing, bands, and other accessories.
You will engage in the entire product development process, from initial concept through to production, ensuring that all designs are manufacturable and meet Apple's high standards for quality and performance. You will also be involved in testing and validating designs, collaborating with reliability and environmental teams to ensure compliance with industry standards.
Your responsibilities will include conducting design reviews, providing feedback to peers, and iterating on designs based on testing results and user feedback. You will also have the opportunity to mentor junior engineers and contribute to the overall design culture within the team.
