Overview
Astronomer is hiring a Staff Product Designer to shape user experiences for their DataOps platform, Astro. You'll collaborate with product managers and engineers, focusing on complex design challenges. This role requires significant design experience and expertise in design systems.
Job Description
Who you are
You have extensive experience in product design, ideally with a focus on developer tooling and data applications — you've worked on complex problem spaces and understand the nuances of user interactions in technical environments. Your background includes contributing to or evolving design systems at scale, ensuring consistency and usability across products. You are comfortable collaborating with globally distributed teams, bringing diverse perspectives into your design process. You possess strong communication skills, allowing you to articulate design decisions effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Desirable
Experience with data engineering or analytics tools is a plus, as is familiarity with workflow orchestration and platform usability. You are adept at using design tools like Figma and Adobe XD, and you have a portfolio that showcases your ability to create intuitive user experiences. You thrive in environments where you can zoom out to reason about systems while also diving deep into the details of execution.
What you'll do
As a Staff Product Designer at Astronomer, you will own the design for one or more core product areas from early problem framing and discovery through to detailed execution and iteration in production. You will partner closely with product managers and engineers to translate deep technical constraints into clear, intuitive user experiences. Your work will directly impact customer adoption and developer productivity, making it both meaningful and highly visible within the organization. You will engage in user research to understand the needs of data engineers and analytics engineers, ensuring that the solutions you design meet their requirements effectively. You will also be involved in the continuous improvement of the design system, ensuring that it evolves alongside the product and remains relevant to user needs.
What we offer
At Astronomer, we value diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. We offer a hybrid work model that allows for flexibility in how you work, whether in the office or remotely. You will have the opportunity to work with a talented team dedicated to building innovative solutions that empower data teams. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement — your unique perspective could be a valuable addition to our team.
