Overview
Axon is hiring a Staff/Principal Full Stack Software Engineer to build and enhance their cloud-based records management system. You'll work with technologies like Java, JavaScript, and AWS to drive impactful change in law enforcement. This role requires experience in building large-scale software applications.
Job Description
Who you are
You are a Staff Full Stack Software Engineer with 5+ years of experience building large-scale software applications — you have a deep interest in backend technologies and are familiar with frontend and mobile technologies. You thrive in environments where you can take ownership and drive real change, and you are excited about the care, feeding, and growth of scalable cloud-based systems. You can instill new ideas into our engineering architecture and organization to help lead us into the next phase of scale and growth of our Records Management system.
You have a strong understanding of software development principles and practices — you’ve successfully led projects from conception through deployment, ensuring high-quality deliverables. Your experience includes working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, and you are adept at communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. You are committed to continuous learning and growth, always seeking to improve your skills and the processes around you.
You are passionate about making a positive impact on society — you understand the critical safety and justice issues that Axon addresses and are motivated by the mission to protect life. You value diverse perspectives and foster an inclusive environment where everyone can contribute their best work. You are a proactive problem solver who enjoys tackling challenges head-on and finding innovative solutions.
Desirable
Experience with cloud technologies and services, particularly AWS, is a plus. Familiarity with modern frontend frameworks like React and backend technologies such as Node.js will help you excel in this role. If you have experience in law enforcement or public safety technology, that would be an added advantage.
What you'll do
As a Staff/Principal Full Stack Software Engineer at Axon, you will play a key role in the development of our cloud-based records management system. You will design and implement features that streamline report writing and approval workflows, enhancing the efficiency of law enforcement agencies. Your work will directly contribute to reducing the time officers spend at their desks, allowing them to focus more on community engagement.
You will collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define requirements and deliver high-quality software solutions. You will be responsible for writing clean, maintainable code and conducting code reviews to ensure adherence to best practices. Your expertise will guide architectural decisions and help shape the future direction of our technology stack.
You will also mentor junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and experience to help them grow in their careers. You will participate in agile development processes, contributing to sprint planning and retrospectives to continuously improve team performance. Your insights will be invaluable in identifying areas for improvement and driving innovation within the engineering team.
What we offer
At Axon, you will be part of a mission-driven organization that values your contributions and supports your professional development. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, including opportunities for career advancement and skill development. You will work in a collaborative environment where your ideas are valued, and you can make a real difference in the world.
Join us in our mission to protect life and make a positive impact on society. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement — your unique perspective could be exactly what we need.
