Databricks is hiring a Staff Software Engineer - Backend to build infrastructure for their platform at scale. You'll work with Java, Scala, Go, and Rust to enhance developer experience and optimize backend systems. This position requires 8+ years of professional software development experience.
Job Description
Who you are
You have 8+ years of professional software development experience, with a strong focus on backend systems. Your expertise includes proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Java, Scala, or Go, and you have hands-on experience in developing and operating large-scale, critical distributed backend systems. You have demonstrated leadership throughout all project phases, from inception and design to implementation and operations, with a strong ability to drive architectural decisions.
You are passionate about building foundational infrastructure platforms that enable seamless operation across numerous geographic regions and cloud providers. Your experience includes implementing cloud-agnostic infrastructure abstractions that help engineers manage and operate their services more efficiently. You understand the importance of enhancing the developer experience and have worked on tools and processes that drive engineering efficiency.
Desirable
Experience with optimizing the Rust development experience is a plus, as is familiarity with programming languages, linters, static analysis, IDEs, remote development environments, automated release pipelines, and test automation frameworks.

In this role, you will work with your team to build infrastructure for the Databricks platform at scale. You will tackle challenges such as supporting Databricks' growth by building foundational infrastructure platforms. Your work will enable seamless operation across various geographic regions and cloud providers. You will develop tools and processes that enhance the developer experience for Databricks engineers across various areas. This includes programming languages, linters, static analysis, IDEs, remote development environments, automated release pipelines, and test automation frameworks. Your contributions will directly impact the efficiency and effectiveness of the engineering teams at Databricks.
