Databricks is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to build infrastructure for their platform at scale. You'll work with Java, Scala, and Go to develop tools that enhance the developer experience. This position requires 5+ years of experience in backend development.
Job Description
Who you are
You have 5+ years of professional software development experience, particularly in backend engineering, where you've built and operated large-scale, critical distributed systems. Your expertise in programming languages such as Java, Scala, or Go allows you to tackle complex challenges effectively. You possess a Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience, which has equipped you with a solid foundation in software engineering principles.
You are self-driven and passionate about enhancing engineering efficiency, with a strong focus on optimizing the developer experience. Your leadership skills shine through as you guide projects from inception and design to implementation and operations, ensuring that your team delivers high-quality solutions. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with cross-functional teams to build foundational infrastructure platforms that support seamless operations across various geographic regions and cloud providers.
Desirable
Experience with Rust development is a plus, as our current focus is on optimizing the Rust development experience across the organization. Familiarity with cloud-agnostic infrastructure abstractions will also be beneficial in helping Databricks engineers manage and operate their services more efficiently.
What you'll do
In this role, you will work with your team to build infrastructure for the Databricks platform at scale, addressing a diverse range of domains from core compute fabric resource management to service platforms and machine learning infrastructure. You will implement cloud-agnostic infrastructure abstractions that enable Databricks engineers to operate their services more efficiently. Your responsibilities will include developing tools and processes that drive engineering efficiency, enhancing the developer experience across various areas such as programming languages, linters, static analysis, IDEs, remote development environments, automated release pipelines, and test automation frameworks.
You will collaborate with other engineers to support Databricks' growth by building foundational infrastructure platforms that enable seamless operation across numerous geographic regions and cloud providers. Your hands-on experience in developing and operating large-scale, critical distributed backend systems will be crucial as you tackle challenges and optimize processes. You will also have the opportunity to demonstrate leadership throughout all project phases, ensuring that your contributions have a lasting impact on the organization.
