Databricks is seeking a Senior Counsel, Employment (APAC) to provide legal counseling on employment matters across the Asia Pacific region. You'll work closely with the People Team in various countries including Singapore, Australia, and India. This role requires extensive experience in employment law.

Who you are
You are a seasoned legal professional with a strong background in employment law, particularly within the Asia Pacific region. With at least 5 years of experience, you have a proven track record of providing legal advice on a wide range of employment matters, including hiring practices, labor relations, and compliance frameworks. You possess excellent communication skills, enabling you to build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and effectively convey complex legal concepts in a clear and concise manner.
Your experience includes managing pre-litigation employment disputes and advising on performance management, discipline, and termination processes. You are adept at navigating the legal landscape across multiple jurisdictions, understanding the nuances of employment law in countries such as Australia, India, Japan, and South Korea. You are committed to balancing risk and opportunity, ensuring that the legal advice you provide supports the strategic objectives of the organization.
Desirable
You have experience working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and are comfortable with ambiguity. Familiarity with global employment-related projects and compliance issues is a plus. You are proactive in identifying potential legal risks and are skilled at developing practical solutions that align with business goals.
What you'll do
In this role, you will provide pragmatic, risk-balanced employment advice to the Databricks People Team across the APAC region. You will be responsible for advising on various employment matters, including hiring and recruiting, contingent worker arrangements, labor relations, and performance management. You will also manage pre-litigation employment disputes and help establish compliance frameworks for new locations.
You will collaborate closely with the People Team and business partners to ensure that employment practices align with local laws and regulations. Your role will involve drafting and reviewing employment contracts, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws. You will also provide training and guidance to HR and management on employment-related issues, fostering a culture of compliance and awareness within the organization.
As the first APAC-based hire in the legal team, you will have the unique opportunity to shape the legal function in the region. You will work on global employment-related projects, contributing to the development of best practices and policies that support Databricks' growth objectives. Your insights will be invaluable in navigating the complexities of employment law across different jurisdictions.
